For some reason I was browsing the Guinness World Record site the other week and came across a record which I think I brake on nearly ever cycle ride.
The current world record for track standing is held by Jim Dechamp, USA and his track stand was 21.34 seconds long. We don’t know the exact circumstances around the world record, so it’s hard to say if I could do it for longer in the same situation and under the same rules. I know I can track stand on either fixed or freewheel hub for longer than that, and I’m sure that there are thousands of others in the world that can do it for longer.
Huh? Surely there must be more to the record than that. As you say, that records is beatean by gazillions of riders each morning. It’s possible to trackstand indefinitely, really, so it’s kind of a pointless record. (as more and more of them are these days!)
here ist the video:
(the record is 2 seconds of the 21 minutes total). In my opinion the record is in the book because the everyday rider doesn’t have the chance to get an official to verify his daily record.
I believe the rules of the record mean you have to have brakes fully on, no rocking forward and backward allowed. Just pure balancing using your feet off the pedals. Clipless pedals may not be allowed either.
Whaaaaat? That sounds crazy.
Gaz, if you’re going for records I found another that has stood for over 25 years… http://youtu.be/BmpxJWAJbFM
